We have completed modeling of our robot character in previous tutorials (Modeling a Robot and Rendering Using V-Ray Part 1 and Part 2). In this video tutorial we are going to prepare our robot character for rendering using V-Ray. You have to load V-Ray rendering engine into you Maya software for this part. If you are familiar V-ray you know that V-Ray has its own Materials for texturing objects. When you will install v-ray into your system it installs its Material into Maya and you can find v-ray materials in Hypershade. V-Ray is very powerful rendering engine for getting realistic output of you 3d graphics. Lights and shadow play very important role in rendering process. V-Ray rendering engine has built-in Global Illumination Settings for overcome at this issue. So, we are going to apply v-ray material to our robot character and then we will start rendering job.

Our robot character is completed. Now, we will apply special v-ray material to our model. For our convenience and for ease of work we will use Hypershade for applying materials to our character.

This video tutorial is part 2 of Modeling a Robot and Rendering Using V-Ray. We have completed rough shape of the legs of our robotic model. We have used poly primitives for creating our robot’s body part in previous tutorial. We continue using poly primitives in this video also. Now, we will create feet for robot’s legs. We will use poly cylinder for making rough shape of foot. For this tutorial we have docked the poly primitives in Shelf. So, just click on poly cylinder in Shelf. We will Scale and Extrude the cylinder for making shape of foot. Here we will use a trick for selecting faces of cylinder. We have to select upper faces of cylinder. So, just go to vertices mode and click center vertices from the tope center and Right Click and select To Faces and again To Faces. You will see all top Faces will be selected.

Now, we have all top faces are selected. We will use extrude tool for making some details in cylinder. When you satisfied just finish extruding. When we extrude some objects in Maya this causes rough edges. So, for getting smooth edges we will use Bevel tool with offset of 0.2 in attribute editor. Now, according to our reference image we have to create foot fingers. We will use poly cube and we will continue making details of foot area. When finish we will arrange and group all leg’s parts. At the end of this tutorial we will complete robot model with four legs and some extra detail and into next part we will texture and render our model using V-Ray.

Maya users are very affectionate of modeling robotic models. We have included a lot of robotic modeling tutorials in our website. But this tutorial has a best thing that after modeling our teacher will teach you how to use best material for texturing a robot that it looks like real robot. And then he will move to rendering process and he will teach you how to use v-ray rendering process for realistic rendering. This is first part of this robot modeling tutorials. This tutorial is split in three parts. This part will start with a poly sphere. We will start modeling our robot from scratch. Best thing is that we are using Maya 2012 for this robot modeling and we will introduce you new feature of Maya for modeling and rendering process.

Tutorials starts with a poly sphere which will be base of our model. After that we will convert it into low poly and we will start creating details of our robot model. We will use a final render image of this robot for reference. You will see again and again during modeling and will create more details. We will use extrude tools for creating a crease in our robot. This crease will separate the head of robot. After that will create robot’s mouth using standard pipe in poly menu. We will model robot’s legs using standard poly cube. We will make rough shape of robot’s leg by scaling the cube in different angles.

This tutorial guides you about modeling an office plant in Maya. We have reference image of the plant which helps us to create plant model with accuracy. We can edit and design these reference images in Adobe Photoshop, after this open the image in Maya and get this image on plane.

It is easy to work with polygonal plane while performing modeling. At starting point, the prospective viewport is the best choice for working. So open scene there and go to polygonal primitive and choose polygonal cylinder for soft base modeling like branches. Insert this cylinder in the plant pot and scale it along with branches.

The cylinder will be applied to the branches as default modeling. Convert this cylinder shape into vertices model and change the vertices setting slightly. Create polygonal plane along with cylinder and apply object manipulation tools to make plant leaves.

Grab this plane to make similar like a leaf model. Increase the radius of the branch where you want to attach leaves. Make some duplicate copy of this leaf and assign them at distance. Name these models properly so that you could find and work on them easily. After this rough modeling, it is ready for texturing and coloring which will be taught in next part.

Here this tutorial is with very interesting topic of Maya. In this tutorial you will learn about how to create super toon sample for cartoony character. The character model is based on sketched image with free hand drawing. In the beginning of this tutorial you are being introduced with these sketches doing different task. The character is standing near a dustbin and in further images the waste material is spreading around. The drawing is pretty much better for each of the step. There are separate images for all task performed by character. The character is shown with action and squashing and stretching action is created with best of drawing ability. All the necessary information is there and you don’t have to be worry about any step while working in Maya for animation.
If you watch the video, the character is putting aside the lid and jumps into the drum or dustbin. After slipping the squashing and stretching action are created very beautifully.
After step by step performance, thee character fell down into the dustbin in inverse position. All the action are very clear, his timing while starting and ending is marvelous. You are told in the end with different actions performed by character again for practice. So all of this for now, Moreover watch this video tutorial.

In this tutorial we shall learn how to use selection mask remaining in Maya 2012 . First of all find out selection mask file and open it in Maya. You are seeing in this scene that the current model given in this tutorial is created with the help of different object setup. Here in this project NURBs primitives, polygonal primitives are together used along with lighting affects and some particle affects. The scene is already created and when we play the animation, the scene creates such situation as shown in this video. When we use selection mask, more options appear on the shelf menu. The object setup in this scene is still little bit confusing, so instead of editing we can use selection tool for separate setting of each torus. At this time you can’t select the particle affects in the scene.
They can only be managed or edit from selection mask. In this scene we can not disable my surface selection but polygonal selection can be managed from here.
There are more options given in the drop down list of this selection mask which allows you to enable or disable the selection. If we right click on the given model, there appear lots of options for object modification on left and right sides separately. We can manage the scene from these options. Watch this video tutorial holding selection mask setup, so get help from this video tutorial.

In this tutorial we shall discuss creating lights, placing and adjusting them along with shadow in the scene. All the set up is done in query and finally the image is obtained with proper lighting and shading textured. There are many types of lighting, spot lighting, target lighting and much more. In this specific tutorial we are just describing three point lightings. If we talked about scene, the character model is in lying position. The lighting application is little bit difficult for this scene but anyway one can do this job easily by following the directions given in this tutorial. The lighting for lying characters are required much more practice. Three point lighting is considered as key light in lighting applications.
First of all, key light is applied in the scene using spot or directional light. Go to create menu to above side of prospective viewport and in its drop down list choose lights and next spot light.
In this way the spot light will appear on the top of the lying characters, move it aside on horizontal position with the help of move tool. The key light as spot light is kept at 45 degree on the given axes. The lighting assigned in this way will create straight shadow in front of character. There is detailed video linked below having same concept of three point lighting application.

In this tutorial of Maya 2012, you will learn about sackboy modeling tutorial. The sackboy model is just an imaginary model made up with basic tools using poly modeling. It is advantage of Autodesk Maya tools, that you can use alternate tools instead of original in case of wrong way. This method of modeling will introduce you with new way of modeling. There are reference image of this model and it is split into four different sides, so that you could work easily. Go to file and open reference image sketch and work for front view. Create a map and rough drawing of front view. Here you can use object manipulation tools to modify the image and alternate method for object modification is changing its attributes.
In this way, you have to work on all sides one by one, it is very tricky work but be patient in work. Go to front view again and create basic drawing using move tool. The move tool will help you to cover the desired area. The polygonal primitive will be the best choice for modeling of this sackboy. After rough drawing, the character will be provided texture material. That’s all for now in this part, in next part we shall work more for this sackboy model.

In these video tutorials you will learn techniques about using Maya NURBS Primitive.
This tutorial is just an introduction to NURBS modeling in Maya. The NURBs are thought very important factor in 3d computer graphic modeling. This particular tutorial is about 3d NURBs modeling and NURBS animation in Maya. Besides them, we shall also introduce you about different tools and commands using in NURBS modeling and also learn how to use them while creating such modeling. The NURBs modeling techniques are quite easy to learn that it is called user friendly way of 3d modeling and animation. The NURBS modeling have also their own specific primitives which help it to create easy or complex modeling with NURBS.

Moreover we can model the 3d models with 2d curves and lines in NURBS 3d modeling e.g. You draw curve and then give the prototype curve in which you find out the pattern for the first curve to be formed and that’s it you link these curves from one’s end and apply boundary, loft or extrude commands and 3d modeling and animation software here is Maya model 3d surface by extended the first curve in the shape of second one. You will learn later about this 3d modeling in car modeling lessons. Here now we introduce NURBS 3d modeling commands and tool for creating NURBS surfaces.

There are two ways to perform modeling in 3d s max and Maya. The NURBs modeling works with CV curves and then we apply different commands to modify their shapes at our own desire. The CV curve is located in create menu drop down list. When we create curve, it is in 2dimensional shape but after modifying it with applying command, it turns into 3d as well. This tutorial is about NURBS, which is computer graphical application for creating curves and surface for representing in free hand modeling with flexibility. NURBS are mathematical modeling application which helps one to study and analysis the surface of the object. Either it is interior side or exterior.

For example the designers utilize this application mostly because they care of every side and surface of the object. The NURBS are customized with respect to its gears. There are much difference between NURBS and polygonal components. The channel box is used for changing values of components. The NURBS is in fact short form of Non-Uniform Rational Based Splines. NURBS were used in CAD and other building purpose software because it is thought suitable for designing and mapping function. But later on it was brought in use in other graphics purposes. The connecting point of control polygon is called control point. The major difference between poly model and NURBS model that polygon is drawn in straight line whereas the NURBS are curved in shape.
