<p><img class="alignnone" style="margin-top: 5px; margin-bottom: 5px; vertical-align: bottom;" src="http://www.mayavideotutorial.com/images/maya-pics-articles/modeling__gear_Part1/image004.jpg" alt="image004" width="200" height="150" /><img class="alignnone" style="border-color: #000000; margin: 5px;" src="http://www.mayavideotutorial.com/images/maya-pics-articles/modeling__gear_Part1/image006.jpg" alt="image006" width="200" height="151" /><img style="border-color: #000000; margin: 5px; float: left;" src="http://www.mayavideotutorial.com/images/maya-pics-articles/modeling__gear_Part1/image008.jpg" alt="image008" width="200" height="131" /></p>
<p>Escalator is commonly used in five star hotels, commercial markets, banks, city complexes etc. Of course this tutorial is of Mechanical field. You are not going to cover each and every mechanical object of an escalator in this tutorial. You’ll simply try to understand the Mechanism; you will roughly animate some gears, you will learn techniques, active rigid bodies, a little physics, and much more.</p>
<h4>How an escalator runs?</h4>
<p>There is a system of gears, beyond an escalator’s mechanism. Electric Motor runs gears, wide leather belts bear the burdens, and staircase railings control the motion and friction of an escalator. In the image below you don’t find the actual gearing system, but you will understand the logic of mechanisms and physics of power.<br />
Actually the logic behind a Machine is very simple.<br />
<img class="alignnone" style="border-color: #000000; margin-top: 5px; margin-bottom: 5px; vertical-align: middle;" src="http://www.mayavideotutorial.com/images/maya-pics-articles/modeling__gear_Part1/image012.jpg" alt="image012" width="334" height="275" /><br />
Normally it is said that you may increase the Power of one gear by interlocking it with the other and it is also said that size and number of gears is the main thing which creates all mechanical motions.<br />
Modeling an escalator is a special task, common staircase 3d Model doesn’t work properly. So you will have to model a rough object for the experiment of machine. Therefore this tutorial contains some details of necessary modeling of such things.</p>
<h5>Let’s start our mechanical Modeling and Animation Project.</h5>
<ul>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Create a poly cylinder from create menu</li>
</ul>
<p><img class="alignnone" style="border-color: #000000; margin-top: 5px; margin-bottom: 5px; vertical-align: middle;" src="http://www.mayavideotutorial.com/images/maya-pics-articles/modeling__gear_Part1/image014.jpg" alt="image014" width="242" height="278" /></p>
<ul>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Change scale Y to 0.138</li>
<li>Change Subdivision Axis to 24 from channel box</li>
</ul>
<p><img class="alignnone" style="margin-top: 10px; margin-bottom: 10px; vertical-align: middle;" src="http://www.mayavideotutorial.com/images/maya-pics-articles/modeling__gear_Part1/image016.jpg" alt="image016" width="241" height="170" /></p>
<ul>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Right click on the object and select face</li>
<li>Select one of the face from height of the cylinder</li>
<li>Again right click and select edge</li>
<li>Select one edge of the selected face, see image below</li>
</ul>
<p><img class="alignnone" style="margin-top: 10px; margin-bottom: 10px; vertical-align: middle;" src="http://www.mayavideotutorial.com/images/maya-pics-articles/modeling__gear_Part1/image018.jpg" alt="image018" width="394" height="225" /></p>
<ul>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Go to Edit Mesh Menu and select wedge face</li>
</ul>
<p><img class="alignnone" style="margin-bottom: 10px; margin-top: 10px; vertical-align: middle;" src="http://www.mayavideotutorial.com/images/maya-pics-articles/modeling__gear_Part1/image020.jpg" alt="image020" width="254" height="212" /></p>
<ul>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Select very next face to the wedged face and change the direction of wedge face, see the image below</li>
</ul>
<p><img class="alignnone" style="margin-top: 10px; margin-bottom: 10px; vertical-align: middle;" src="http://www.mayavideotutorial.com/images/maya-pics-articles/modeling__gear_Part1/image022.jpg" alt="image022" width="315" height="281" /></p>
<ul>
<li>Right click on object and select vertex</li>
</ul>
<ul>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Select two corner vertices of the wedged face<br />
<img class="alignnone" style="border-color: #000000; margin-top: 10px; margin-bottom: 10px; vertical-align: middle;" src="http://www.mayavideotutorial.com/images/maya-pics-articles/modeling__gear_Part1/image024.jpg" alt="image024" width="254" height="276" /></li>
<li>Go to Edit Mesh Menu and merge vertices with default settings<br />
<img class="alignnone" style="margin-bottom: 10px; margin-top: 10px; vertical-align: middle;" src="http://www.mayavideotutorial.com/images/maya-pics-articles/modeling__gear_Part1/image026.jpg" alt="image026" width="254" height="276" /></li>
<li>Select all faces one by one and do the same things</li>
<li>Repeat the procedure again and again until you get the following result<br />
<img class="alignnone" style="margin-top: 10px; margin-bottom: 10px; vertical-align: middle;" src="http://www.mayavideotutorial.com/images/maya-pics-articles/modeling__gear_Part1/image028.jpg" alt="image028" width="366" height="241" /></li>
<li>Scale the object on Y Axis 10 units<br />
<img class="alignnone" style="margin-top: 10px; margin-bottom: 10px; vertical-align: middle;" src="http://www.mayavideotutorial.com/images/maya-pics-articles/modeling__gear_Part1/image030.jpg" alt="image030" width="290" height="330" /></li>
<li>Insert another cylinder in it or select top and bottom cap faces and then extrude them, choose your own ease</li>
<li>Select upper faces and stretch them out with extrusion command</li>
<li>Ultimately make shape like following one,<br />
<img class="alignnone" style="margin-top: 10px; margin-bottom: 10px; vertical-align: middle;" src="http://www.mayavideotutorial.com/images/maya-pics-articles/modeling__gear_Part1/image032.jpg" alt="image032" width="328" height="269" /></li>
<li>Make the gears of your desired number<br />
<img class="alignnone" style="margin-top: 10px; margin-bottom: 10px; vertical-align: middle;" src="http://www.mayavideotutorial.com/images/maya-pics-articles/modeling__gear_Part1/image034.jpg" alt="image034" width="273" height="429" /></li>
</ul>
<p>You can use other methods but you must have some gear object before assigning active rigid bodies from soft/rigid bodies menu</p>

After this tutorial, you will be able to model any kind of tires for any vehicles. We are starting this learning process right now and thought to share it with all users so that they may utilize it for their projects. I have been teaching this concept of tire modeling to learners for several months. Then I have created an idea to share it other. This particular tutorial of tire modeling is about mechanical modeling because tire belongs to mechanical vehicles. This tutorial will help you other for making of wheel at all. Maybe they don’t have in need of such wheel or tire modeling but they can get some idea from this tire modeling. It is almost very important for the modelers to use them anywhere in their projects using useful tools. This website is always here to teach you all about the great 3 d modeling and 3 d animation software Maya. For modeling tire you should first have basic idea in your mind and you should start modeling. Here you should take interest in learning the techniques and then you can do 3d modeling yourself. Here you will learn 3d modeling of tires with polygon primitives. The actual video tutorial is not here in this tutorial but the link is attached which refers you to video tutorial.</p>

<p><img class="alignright" src="http://www.mayavideotutorial.com/images/maya-pics-articles/polymechanical_modeling.jpg" alt="polymechanical_modeling" width="140" height="140" />Here this tutorial is about poly mechanical modeling and its different features. Poly modeling is realized as greatest field of 3d modeling and designing. It is misfortune that many users don’t adopt the Maya and its application in their practical career of engineering fields. The regular users of engineering are not tending toward practical modeling and animation. Therefore some other non-professional and normal designers are working for the game developing and movies visual effects making. These non-professional artists are found on freelancer and you can easily access to them on wages. Generally it is suggested to come to the constructive work. The suggestion is given because of correlation of Maya designing and modeling in engineering projects. This designing helps out the learners to work fluently in their projects using advanced tools and commands of Maya. There is great scope of 3d designers in engineering field; you can expose each and every machine and its function in Maya modeling. So in this way, you can say that you can do anything with Maya commands and tools for engineering purpose. The polygonal modeling in Maya you can find a lot of stuff about mechanical modeling. Similarly many artists also use NURBs which have separate purpose for modeling. If you go to home page of this site, you will find very informative stuff about poly mechanical engineering fields.</p>

It is very easy and simple lesson of modeling and we shall represent it with more easily. We are creating poly rim with polygonal object with step by step. Take poly sphere from polygonal object or you can choose it from shelf menu. Select the object and then select its face, insert polygon with placing suitable values. Select the polygon and apply extrude command. Next step is to give it bevel shape, again select the polygon and apply bevel command and apply it on selected area. Now we are required to chamfer the selected edges. Select the object and go to modifier panel and choose mesh smooth modifier which will make your object smooth and reliable. As the rim has holes in the center, therefore first change the object into editable poly and prepare it for creating holes in it. We use Boolean and Array tools for this purpose, although mostly people are not familiar with these tools but still they are easy to use. Use cylinder to create hole in the rim body and cylinder should intersect the rim. Next the Boolean and array tools will be used at further stage but another method is used in the following video which is more comprehensible. Through this method one can generate rim modeling within real time as we have in 9min. for more detail watch this video.</p>

Hi my name is Vishal Kawji. This is my first lesson for 3DTotal.com, so lets start modeling.</p>
<p>This lesson is made using Maya 6.5.</p>
<p>For this lesson we resolve need a robotic arm so lets model one</p>
<p><img class="alignright size-full wp-image-9032" title="Creating Hydraulics in Maya" src="http://www.freemayavideotutorials.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/image00.jpg" alt="Creating Hydraulics in Maya" width="272" height="260" /></p>
<p>1. First get a poly cylinder by subdiv axis –20, height segment –1 and no cap segment.</p>
<p><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-9033" title="height segment" src="http://www.freemayavideotutorials.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/image01.jpg" alt="height segment" width="273" height="215" /></p>
<p>2. Now rotate it to 90deg in x- axis. At this time it resolve look like this.<br />
3. Now extrude the external cap face and create some thing like this.</p>
<p><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-9034" title="image02" src="http://www.freemayavideotutorials.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/image02.jpg" alt="image02" width="261" height="196" /></p>
<p>4. At the present extrude the seven side faces of the cylinder to create the first bar of the hand.</p>
<p><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-9035" title="image-3" src="http://www.freemayavideotutorials.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/image03.jpg" alt="image-3" width="537" height="380" /></p>
<p>5. It resolve look like this after extrude plus small bit of tweaking.<br />
6. Now it’s the time for creation a joint. For creation a joint we resolve use a another cylinder but with a smaller size.<br />
7. Now let’s make it look like a joint.<br />
8. Now combine both of them OK it’s done now.</p>
<p><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-9036" title="image-4" src="http://www.freemayavideotutorials.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/image04.jpg" alt="image-4" width="524" height="221" /></p>
<p>9. Now get a copy of the arm and flip it and tweak it a small bit so it would look like this.<br />
10. Ok now let’s make the fingers.<br />
11. Get a sphere and place it at the front of the arm. Now take a duplicate of the sphere at the same place.</p>
<p><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-9037" title="image-5" src="http://www.freemayavideotutorials.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/image05.jpg" alt="image-5" width="537" height="380" /></p>
<p>12. OK at the present select one of the spheres and Boolean it with the front arm.</p>
<p><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-9038" title="image-6" src="http://www.freemayavideotutorials.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/image06.jpg" alt="image-6" width="537" height="380" /></p>
<p>13. Ok at the present lets create the base for fingers.<br />
14. Lets take a cylinder for the base for the fingers ok.<br />
15. Now get a sphere for the movements of the fingers.</p>
<p><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-9039" title="image-7" src="http://www.freemayavideotutorials.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/image07.jpg" alt="image-7" width="518" height="322" /></p>
<p>16. Ok now let’s create the fingers.<br />
17. Ok now I have taken a cylinder for his finger. I took 2 cylinders which are actually combined and now I am merging the vertices.</p>

<p>This method used Aziz Khan of Afghanistan and then I have been teaching this method to my class the modeling of a tire from polygons in Maya for several months until I created one idea of my own, I will set before you with the passage of time all of my own ideas. Anyway, in this tutorial you are going to learn how to model a tire 3d object in 3d software Maya. I put this tutorial in mechanical 3d modeling section because I know at least it is the need of wheel makers at all and they can get a lot familiarity about techniques of using tools. Yes, it’s the most important thing for a modeler, the techniques of using tools. No doubt we know and can easily use many tools of some 3d software but unfortunately most of us don’t know where we should choose a proper tool for specific and most appropriate use.<br />
Modeling a tire is possible with unlimited methods and ways of getting the most real shape or something more than real. This is one of the unlimited ideas.<br />
Poly mechanical modeling is suitable for such type of objects which have the much details because you can control a poly object hundred times easily than a NURBS 3d object.</p>

In this tutorial we are going to model a NUT and BOLT with Polygons.<br />
In this tutorial we are going to model a NUT and BOLT with Polygons. This tutorial belongs to Poly Mechanical Modeling in Maya.</p>
<p><strong>Let’s start with a Poly Cylinder.</strong></p>
<ol>
<li> Create a Poly Cylinder with default settings</li>
<li>Show wireframe on shaded</li>
<li>Go to the Channel box and Put values as below</li>
<pre>Height 0.7
Subdivision Axis 18
Subdivision Caps 3</pre>
<p><img style="margin: 5px 2px; vertical-align: middle;" src="http://www.mayavideotutorial.com/images/maya-pics-articles/nutBolt/image004.jpg" alt="image004" width="301" height="240" /></p>
<li>Right Click on the object and choose Edge from the right click marking menu</li>
<li>Select edges ring of sides, select one edge and then leave two edges and repeat this action until the last edge</li>
<p><img style="vertical-align: middle;" src="http://www.mayavideotutorial.com/images/maya-pics-articles/nutBolt/image006.jpg" alt="image006" width="302" height="209" /></p>
<li>Go the top view</li>
<li>Get scale tool</li>
<li>Uniformly scale all selected edges and you will get a shape like image below</li>
<p><img src="http://www.mayavideotutorial.com/images/maya-pics-articles/nutBolt/image008.jpg" alt="image008" width="243" height="236" /><br />
<strong>Top view</strong></p>
<li>Go to the side view and scale on Y axis for adjusting the height of selected edges. See image below</li>
<p><img src="http://www.mayavideotutorial.com/images/maya-pics-articles/nutBolt/image010.jpg" alt="image010" width="435" height="176" /><br />
<strong>Side view</strong></p>
<li>Go to the Select Menu, choose Select Edge Loop Tool</li>
<li>Include Top and Bottom edge loops of Nut object. See image below</li>
<p><img src="http://www.mayavideotutorial.com/images/maya-pics-articles/nutBolt/image012.jpg" alt="image012" width="373" height="255" /></p>
<li>Go to the Edit Mesh Menu &gt; Bevel with default settings</li>
<p><img src="http://www.mayavideotutorial.com/images/maya-pics-articles/nutBolt/image014.jpg" alt="image014" width="407" height="259" /></p>
<li>Go to Edit Mesh Menu choose Insert Edge Loop Tool</li>
<li>Insert a new edge loop near the corner edge of top of Nut object. See image below</li>
<p><img src="http://www.mayavideotutorial.com/images/maya-pics-articles/nutBolt/image016.jpg" alt="image016" width="411" height="258" /></p>
<li>Right click on object and choose vertex</li>
<p>&gt;</p>
<li>Select 6 edges of corners and scale them uniformly. And make a circle type shape</li>
<p><img src="http://www.mayavideotutorial.com/images/maya-pics-articles/nutBolt/image018.jpg" alt="image018" width="349" height="282" /></p>
<li>Repeat the steps 13, 14, 15 and 16 for opposite side of the Nut. Change the camera from top to bottom and create same edge loop on other side.</li>
<p><img src="http://www.mayavideotutorial.com/images/maya-pics-articles/nutBolt/image020.jpg" alt="image020" width="368" height="276" /></p>
<li>Go to edit mesh and bevel more edges loops of new extruded faces and make soft and cool shape like a real nut</li>
<li>Create another cylinder with default settings in the scene</li>
