Slicing effect by ramps in Maya (1)

In this lesson I’m going to show how to make slicing effect using simple shading networks.

First make some geometry. You can use any type of geometry.

Then go to the hyper shade and create Lambert shadier. Assign that shadier to the objects.

Then make ramp texture, but check as projection check box.
* Projection uses placement objects in 3d space to project image onto the object. This is useful when we don’t want to mess with UV’s.

As you be able to see there are 4 new nodes. Projection1 node takes image info from ramp1, and placement info from place3dtexture1

Connect projection1 node to lambert1.transparency
