Maya Modeling Tutorial

Nadeem | Jun 30, 2011 | Comments 0

In this tutorial you will learn about Maya modeling and how we use poly modeling technique in Maya projects to form a desired model. This tutorial is describing only basics of poly modeling in Autodesk Maya. Modeling is of two kinds, polygonal modeling and NURBS modeling. The polygonal modeling is created with polygonal primitives while other NURBS modeling is created with surface setting. Here we shall teach you about all basic technique of polygonal modeling. Let’s start our tutorial without wasting time, go to polygonal primitives and choose polygonal cube. This is object for our scene model and we can manipulate it by using object manipulation tools. Enlarge the cube with scale tool or you can make it smaller. Doing this job, you can see the changing in its attributes from channel box. Now we want to add some detail in the object, therefore convert it into subdivision mode. Drag middle mouse button to outward and you see the detail has added to object. Here you can delete any half of the object by selecting that area. Next we shall adjust the component level of object. First we change the object into vertices mode and select the vertices and move it slightly upward position. You can modify the object shape completely by extruding its face. The edges add detail by creating edge loop in object modification. It is advantages of Maya and 3D studio max that you can mirror or duplicate copy of one effect to form other. After applying these commands, you will finally get the result although rough but still better. The following video is demonstrating this technique here visually.
